B2B Standards Benefit Calculator
Overview: Nathan Research is a Dallas-based strategy
consulting firm. The firm is led by Ram Vishwanathan, an industry veteran
who has spent the last 15 years in defining, developing, implementing and
evangelizing leading edge technologies and business processes in the retail
and consumer products goods industry.
Nathan Research required a web-based Benefit Calculator,
which trading partners could use to analyze the effect on processes due to improvements in
a business driver. The Benefit Calculator would be a tool to aid trading partners in estimation
of financial benefits under various scenarios. The application would be
based on EAN.UCC
physical and electronic commerce standards and practices specifications.
Challenge: The online
Benefit Calculator would have the following features:
- Analysis tools for over 50 supply chain and data synchronization
processes
- Conformance with EAN.UCC specifications
- A reliable and scalable architecture, to ensure constant availability
even in the face of a growing user base
- Intuitively easy to use, so as to be accessible to an audience with
a wide range of technical skill levels
- An option to save analysis results as XML documents
Genie Solution:
The solution consisted of a web-based, easy-to-use and highly configurable
application. The Benefit Calculator was designed to allow users to
easily conduct analysis on all processes through a step-by-step procedure.
A comprehensive administration tool allows the management of
application parameters. Extensive control over user profiles,
content and the calculator parameters is possible.
By leveraging Open Source technologies, we were able to
greatly reduce the level of the investment required to
develop and deploy the Benefit Calculator. Through this approach,
we were able to reduce the client's financial risk in the project and
ensured that the application generated ROI much faster.
Results: The application has been
received with a great deal of acclaim. It has been
certified as EAN.UCC conformant. It has also
been integrated into the Standards in Action Program,
which is dedicated to
encouraging interoperability across the supply chain.
The Standards in Action Program is
administered by Retail System Alert Advisory Service and
sponsored by Intel and SAP,
